Sustainable Rusk is a group of citizens:

Working together through discussion and participation in community activities with individuals, businesses, local governments, churches and other groups to promote and support locally, a global shift in consciousness towards a sustainable relationship between our planet's people and its resources.  We are a local grassroots organization supporting sustainable change in our community.  Everyone is welcome to join in.  We work cooperatively with local government and other local organizations but are independent and not affiliated with any political party.

Hey everybody,  our next Sustainable Rusk meeting will be at 5 pm on Wednesday Feb 3, 2010 at the Community Center in Ladysmith across from the post office. We'll be talking about upcoming projects such as the Sustainable Living Fair, the lawns to gardens project, the bike path project, and whatever else you'd like to discuss.  Hope to see you there!

All are welcome to attend.  Being a resident in Rusk County is not required to come to our meetings, events or comment here on the website.

How can you get involved?

There are as many ways to work towards sustainable living as there are people.  That's because there is no one right way.  Everyone can look at their own buying patterns, resource use, work situation, transportation and lifestyle and try to find manageable, positive steps towards sustainable change that work for them.  Often times, living with sustainability in mind will help save money now as well as saving resources for future generations.

A few examples of steps towards sustainability, to give you an idea:

-organize ride-sharing pools,
-buy more locally grown food,

-plant a garden,
-change to more efficient lights and appliances,

-remodel your home for energy efficiency,

-explore renewable energy sources,
-re-use or recycle products and packaging that might otherwise become waste,
-educate yourself about natural resources,
-share ideas with your friends and neighbors,
-let local government know what they can do.

Your changes might range from simple changes in your own habits to changing resource use in your home and family, to being a part of community-wide projects.  One way to start is to come to our meetings and share ideas + effort with others.
